Well, it’s 3am on Saturday morning and I just got back from the ER at Round Rock Hospital, not my idea of a fun Friday night!!! This will be a semi- short story, as I can barely type with a BROKEN THUMB!!! I slammed my thumb in my car door in the grocery store parking lot on Friday afternoon with my husband and kids in the car. I was running in to pick up some pictures I had ordered online. It immediately swelled and turned black under my nail and the bottom side of my thumb. I figured it wasn’t that bad and it would fix iteself…wrong! Later in the evening the pain had gotten so bad that I decided to go to the ER to have the blood drained from under my nail. After waiting FOREVER in the ER I was finally seen and told it was probably broken. Well the x-rays confirmed it, so after the diagnosis of a break came the procedure to relieve the pressure under the nail. They used a neat little cautery device that burned a tiny hole in my nail bed to relieve the blood. It started to feel a alot better and it relieved the pressure but now sitting here typing it hurts much worse, like a hot needle is poking me in the thumb. OUCH!!! Anyway, I figured I’d blog about it since this is the first time I have ever broken a bone. I’ve had 2 kids and 3 major surgeries but none of that pain compares to this!! Anyone who has ever slammed their finger in a door knows what I am talking about! I have to make an appointment with an Orthopedic doctor on Monday to see if I will need a more permanent splint. Well, I guess I am going to go take some pain medicine and try to get some sleep. Oh, and did I mention I feel like one of those cartoon characters that gets a finger smashed and it swells up and throbs?!
