Little Rudy

UPDATE: Rudy is doing very well and seems to be as comfortable as can be expected. Lastnight he didn’t want to move but did eat a plate of scrambled eggs! This morning he was moving around surprisingly well considering his surgery turned out to be more complicated that originally planned. He ended up with about 5-6 inches of his lower intestine repaired plus the lipoma removed and the hernia repaired. At first it was going to be a simple hernia repair but when the doctor opened him up she discovered that it was more severe than first thought. He is all fixed up now though and we are looking forward to having little Rudy back on his feet playing with the others out in the yard. We have to keep him still for 5 days which is not going to be fun!

Today our little Rudy dog went in to have surgery to repair an umbilical hernia. Last week, during a bout of gastritis that landed him at the vet for the day hooked up to an IV, the doctor found that an existing condition had gotten worse, to the point of critical. For the past year he has had something called a Lipoma in his lower abdomen. Now usually these don’t cause any problems, they are simply a fatty benign tumor that they don’t do surgery for unless it is posing a problem. Well, Rudy would have no such luck as I soon found out. She told me that it was herniating and that it needed to be taken care of within the next week to 2 weeks. So after a horrible neutering experience that gave him about 20 staples in his belly… he again is going under the knife! I feel so sorry for him, he was shaking and wimpering when i took him in this morning….they are so much a part of the family that it made me so sad to have to leave him up there! Little guy just can’t catch a break! I will be picking him up around 5:30 this evening and I am sure he will come home to lots of TLC from all of us! Brady has been so concerned about Rudy, but I told him that the vet was going to take good care of him and get him all fixed up and feeling better!
