Day 2 in Corpus Christi brought tons of fun for all of us. We started off our day having an early lunch at the two-story Whataburger on the Bay. We ate lunch upstairs and had a table overlooking a portion of Corpus Christi Bay. After getting our bellies full, we headed over the Harbor Bridge to the Texas State Aquarium. We had such a fun time there and everyone’s favorite part of the visit was the Stingray pool where you could touch all sorts of stingrays. I had my doubts that we’d actually get to touch them but boy was I wrong! We made several trips over to the touch pool because the kids just couldn’t get enough of them (and neither could I). I had a huge grin from ear to ear after that experience! We toured the huge tanks, one of which was a replica of an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The kids really loved that one as there were fish as large as them in there. There was also another tank that represented the Flower Gardens coral reef off the coast. We spent a good few hours there and learned a lot. After we were done at the Aquarium we headed out to find a tasty frozen treat and ended up at Sno-Ball. We agreed that it was the neatest thing ever and THE BEST snow cone we have ever had. They are legendary around those parts and left there saying we’d come back again before we left but sadly we didn’t make it back by there. After taking a short rest back at the hotel and letting the kids swim in the pool, we got ready and set out for Snoopy’s Pier. We didn’t quite know what to expect but it was a really neat place that served fresh seafood straight from the Gulf. The whole restaurant was open-air and had a huge deck out back overlooking the bay. It had the true island vibe to it and we quickly realized why it’s so popular with locals and tourists alike. We made a quick visit nextdoor to the restaurant at Scoopy’s, which was owned by the same people and served ice cream. After a quick ice cream treat we drove about 10 minutes up the island to Mustang Island State Park. I had been there when I was growing up and was anxious to see if it was still the same…and it was. It was a beautiful night and the sunset was gorgeous! We stayed until we had no light left at all. I don’t think any of us wanted to leave.
The next morning we were up and at em and ready to head back north. We decided the night before that we would stop in San Antonio and take the kids to the Riverwalk and The Alamo. Scott and I honeymooned there and have taken many trips alone to celebrate anniversaries but have never taken the kids downtown. We have taken them to Sea World and the Zoo but that’s it. We just love San Antonio and wanted to show them all the places that we enjoy. We had lunch at Chili’s on the Riverwalk then strolled down it for a bit. They loved watching the tour boats go up and down and we also saw a mama duck and her babies which Kacey went nuts over. After walking the River for a bit we strolled down to The Alamo. I will never forget Brady’s reaction to seeing it for the first time. He has read about it and seen it in books and I think it really meant something to him to see it in person and walk through it. He imagined what it was like during the battle with Santa Ana’s army. Kacey is a little too young to understand it but she was such a trooper. After our visit to the Alamo we headed back to the car and made the short drive home. It was a whirlwind three day trip but so much fun!
