The best birthday EVER!

Well, my husband has done it again… he has given me the biggest surprise ever! Late last week he told me that he was taking me on a weekend getaway to celebrate my 27th birthday. Our destination was the beautiful Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

I was so excited and couldn’t wait for Friday to get here! We dropped the kids off at Scott’s parents in DeSoto and the headed to Grapevine to have what was to be one of the best weekends of my life! We pulled up to the Gaylord Texan around 8:30pm and from the minute the valet opened our doors, it was first-class treatment all the way! After entering the resort through the grand entrance, we checked in at the front desk. As we made our way through the huge indoor atrium to our room, all we could say was “wow”! Our luxurious room was on the 5th floor in the Lone Star Tower. The Lone Star rooms are more plush and have more ammenities than the other rooms on the perimeter of the hotel. Our room had a balcony which looked out over the Lone Star Atrium.

The neatest thing about this resort is the fact that you can experience the Lone Star state all in one place! And you never have to step out into the blazing Texas heat to enjoy the sights. The whole place centers around the Atrium which stays at 72 degrees year round! It was so awesome to be able to sit out on the balcony and feel like we were outside but without the stiffling August heat! The atrium itself is a stunning 4.5 acres which features replicas of the Alamo, Riverwalk, Missions, Palo Duro Canyon and the Hill Country. We had so much fun taking pictures as there were many opportunities for some great shots.
Saturday we headed out to have lunch and do some shopping. I ended up choosing a restaurant near Grapevine Mills called Love and War in Texas . It was really neat and the food was amazing! We ordered the Guacamole (which was hand prepared at the table) and for the main course I had the fried catfish and Scott had the chicken fried steak. After stuffing ourselves we made our way to the Galleria in north Dallas and then on to The Shops at Willow Bend in far north Plano. We enjoyed walking around holding hands and not having to worry about kids, work or anything else. It was my day to relax and enjoy things and I did just that! After a full day of shopping we returned back to the resort and had dinner at the Riverwalk Cafe. It felt like we were eating dinner on the real Riverwalk in San Antonio. After dinner we walked around the on-site vineyards and outdoor pool. It was a nice relaxing walk and again, it was so nice to enjoy each others company without any other worries. The Gaylord Texan Resort is nothing short of magnificent and luxurious. This is the place to be if you are looking for a special getaway. Scott, you are the best husband and I will always remember this weekend and how romantic it was, I love you!
