I just love doing things on a whim, and since we have our Six Flags season passes, it’s easy! Here are some fun shots from our day in the park…

Fried Chicken and Fireworks

That about sums up our fantastic Fourth of July celebration this year. Both my parents and Scott’s parents came down to visit and we had a blast! ( No pun intended, hehe) We enjoyed blowing things up with firecrackers during the day and my Dad even got Kacey lighting her own firecrackers! She didn’t even want to come out of the house when the boys first started shooting them off. After a day full of having fun with the little mini dynamites, we enjoyed a fried chicken dinner, courtesy of Bush’s chicken. Yummy! Night fell and the real fun began….fountains, aerials, and sparklers…oh my! Scott took the helm and the rest of us settled in across the street where we could watch not only our fireworks show, but our neighbors all around us too! Seems everyone was shooting them this year and it was spectacular. Here are some pics I took throughout the day. I didn’t get any of the aerials, I wanted to take it all in this year without the camera in my face. But believe me, they were awesome!

Fossil Hunting

Yesterday I took the kids to a local park to play on the playground and take a short nature hike. The trails through this part of our area are really rich with history and beauty and I wanted to share that with the kids. Scott and I both have rode the trails on our bikes and have only briefly stopped to read the historical marker and take in the sights. I had taken my camera with me before and took some really neat shots of the creek and the historic railroad bridge that crosses over it. I had also gotten off the trail and wandered down to the waters edge but never realized it was such a hot spot for fossils until yesterday, when I encouraged the kids to get off the path and go down to the water to check it out. Not 2 minutes after setting foot on the gravel bar, I spotted the first fossil of what was to be many over the next hour. The kids and I got really into it and I just loved the squeals of happiness coming from the kids when they would find yet another fossil. I have long known that this area was great for fossils and Indian artifacts, but never realized how close it was to my own house. This park is only about ten minutes by car. The kids and I already have plans to return soon to hunt for more fossils. I am also currently researching new spots along the creek, as I have read that this area was home to many Indian camps and burial mounds. Not far from where we were hunting yesterday is the famous Indian burial ground of the “Leanderthal Lady”. There are many serious fossil hunters out there and most are not very willing to give up their hunting spots, and I don’t blame them. I think the kids and I will just have to keep this little spot to ourselves

Future X-Games Champ?

Scott rewarded Brady with a brand new pro (dk siklon) bmx freestyle bike this weekend after his “starter” inexpensive bike broke. We knew for a while that he has had a strong interest in bmx and freestyle riding. He loves watching the X-Games on tv and really shows no fear on his bike. He is already doing tricks and will probably be stepping up his game once our local outdoor skate park opens (hopefully they will allow bikes). He is such a natural on the bike and we love watching him ride. Here are a few shots I took the other day as soon as they got home from getting the bike. I will be getting some better shots soon….

Sunday Fun Day Part 1

What another fantastic weekend! Today we spent several hours in the great outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather and this lazy Sunday. Brady and I put in about 5 miles on the trails and I had a blast! We are so lucky to live in an area with so many parks and trails. I just loved exploring and stopping for photos. Brady and I saw a neat limestone rock overhang/cave. We imagined that long ago, native americans used it as a shelter along the creek. It’s fun imagine things like that! Scott and Brady put in about 5 miles too, so that means Brady rode about 10 miles today…wow.

Backtracking a little bit…Scott and the kids decided I needed a bike for Mother’s Day and it can’t be a more perfect gift. I have been wanting a bike for a while now, as I was getting pretty jealous of Scott and Brady getting out on the weekends and riding their bikes all over the place. Scott took me out after I had my not-so-fun dentist appointment on Friday to let me look at bikes and I ended up getting the first one I saw. I just love it! Getting the bike definitely cheered me up!

Kacey isn’t riding yet, although we have taken her training wheels off to try and encourage her readiness and willingness to ride. I know she wants to but she is scared of falling. I get it, but I would be lying if I said I couldn’t wait for her to be able to ride good so we can all take long rides together as a family. The day will come, I know…I am just impatient I guess. Brady is an awesome rider and is so comfortable on his bike. He has quite the stamina built up so he doesn’t tire easily, which is great! Me and him had a nice time together, and it was about time. I don’t get so much one on one time with him, so I am looking forward to our next bike adventure.

Between Scott and I taking turns riding bikes with Brady, we played on the playground with a wild and crazy Kacey. She was going nuts…we think her new haircut is making her more sassy and wild Six inches came off…wow!

We had fun feeding the ducks at the duck pond too. Those ducks are spoiled and just know when you are going to feed them. I swear as soon as they saw the bread bag, here they came over to us.

After we got home we all agreed that as long as the weather is this nice again next weekend, a repeat of today is in order Here are the photos from today. Scott is processing video and will get that uploaded very soon. Stay tuned for Part Two.

Easter Fun

We had a nice, enjoyable Easter this year and I was so happy that the weather finally cooperated! The morning started out foggy and wet and we had little hope that it would be nice enough to enjoy an egg hunt out in the backyard. It did clear up as the day went on and we were able to enjoy a nice afternoon out back. Before we headed outside though, I cooked up a scrumptious dinner of pork roast, navy beans, sweet cornbread and fresh veggies. It was all so good and we got completely stuffed! I LOVE cooking big meals! The kids had fun hiding and hunting eggs and of course spent most of the day snacking on candy…oh well, it’s only one of a few days of the year that it’s allowed All in all it was a nice, relaxing day spent with one another.

Saturday we all went out to a local park to launch Brady’s rocket for the first time. Friday night they built it and got it all ready to go. We were greeted with perfect conditions Saturday morning and had 5 successful runs. He loved it, but really, what boy (or man for that matter) wouldn’t love model rockets?! I think this outing really got them hooked! We even had a man and his son come over and ask if they could watch. He kept talking like his son was really interested but his son was only about 4 years old. I figured out pretty quick he was way more interested that his kid! They boys were like kids in a candy shop and I know this will be a great hobby for them to get into.
